Shipping & Delivery

Standard curbside delivery is free on eligible items to the 48 contiguous US states. Most safes travel by LTL freight truck, which works a little differently from parcel delivery, so here's exactly what to expect. Questions at any point? Call (330) 422-3991 or email contact@ironwardsafes.com.

Delivery at a glance

  • Cost: free standard curbside delivery on eligible items to the 48 contiguous states. Some remote or limited-access addresses carry a surcharge, and we tell you the amount before your card is charged.
  • Method: most safes ship by LTL ("less than truckload") freight truck.
  • Lead time: varies by model. We confirm it with you before your card is charged.
  • Transit: typically 5 to 8 business days once the safe leaves the manufacturer.
  • Appointment: the carrier calls you to schedule delivery, so a phone number is required at checkout.
  • Drop-off: as close to the curb or the end of your driveway as the truck can safely get. You move it inside.

How delivery works, step by step

  1. You place your order. Your card is authorized, not charged.
  2. We confirm with you. By phone, we confirm the order, the lead time for your model, your delivery details and any delivery surcharge. Only then is your card charged. If the timing doesn't work for you, we cancel and release the authorization, and nothing is charged.
  3. The manufacturer prepares your safe. Many safes are built or finished to order, so how long this takes depends on the model.
  4. Your safe ships. We email you the carrier's name and the PRO number for tracking. See Track Your Order.
  5. The carrier calls you. Usually once your safe reaches the carrier's terminal near you, they call to book a delivery appointment.
  6. Delivery day. The driver brings the safe as close to the curb or the end of your driveway as the truck can safely get. You take the carton off and inspect the safe with the driver present before you sign.
  7. You move it into place, or the upgraded delivery service you arranged in advance takes it from there.

What curbside delivery means

Curbside means the driver delivers the safe as close to the curb or the end of your driveway as the truck can safely get, using a liftgate where one is available. The driver's job ends there. They won't carry the safe up steps, into a garage or inside your home, and they won't unpack, place or install it.

Safes are heavy, so plan the last part before delivery day:

  • Check the weight and dimensions on the product page.
  • Measure doorways, hallways, stair turns and the final spot.
  • Line up enough helpers and a dolly rated for the weight, or book a local mover who handles safes or pianos.
  • Keep the pallet and packaging until you're sure you're keeping the safe and any claim is settled, in case you need to make a claim or a return.

The appointment call

Freight carriers deliver by appointment. The carrier calls the phone number on your order to set a delivery day and time window, usually after the safe reaches their terminal near you. Keep your phone nearby once your safe ships, and answer calls from unfamiliar numbers. If you miss the call, call the carrier back with your PRO number, or call us and we'll help.

An adult should be there on delivery day to inspect the safe and sign for it. If you need to change the appointment, tell the carrier as early as you can. A missed appointment, or a delivery that takes longer than the carrier allows at the stop, may lead to redelivery, storage or waiting-time charges from the carrier. Our Shipping Policy explains how those are handled.

Inspect before you sign

This is the most important part of delivery. With the driver present:

  1. Look over the packaging on every side for holes, crushed corners or forklift marks.
  2. Cut the banding and lift the carton off, then check the safe itself: door, hinges, handle, keypad or dial, sides and finish.
  3. Write any damage on the delivery receipt (bill of lading) before you sign. Be specific, for example "dented door, scratched left side."
  4. Take photos of the damage, the packaging and the signed receipt.
  5. Contact us within 24 hours at (330) 422-3991 or contact@ironwardsafes.com.

If you find damage after delivery that wasn't visible, contact us within 5 days. We file and manage the claim with the carrier and the manufacturer and arrange the remedy the claim provides. If the damage looks serious, call us while the driver is still there if you can, and we'll tell you how to proceed. Signing a clean receipt makes a damage claim much harder, so don't let anyone rush you.

Upgraded delivery

If you'd rather not move the safe yourself, we can quote upgraded delivery for your order where the manufacturer or a local delivery service offers it. Options can include:

  • Inside or threshold delivery
  • Placement in the room of your choice
  • Anchoring
  • Removal of packaging and debris

Upgraded delivery costs extra and isn't available in every area. For a quote, send us the model, your delivery ZIP code, the number of steps and turns on the way in, the floor surface where the safe will sit, and photos of the path from the street to the final spot. Ask before you order, or right after, so we can include it when we confirm your order.

Where we deliver

We deliver to addresses in the 48 contiguous states. We can't ship to Alaska, Hawaii, PO boxes, APO/FPO addresses or outside the United States. Ironward Safes is an online-only store, so there's no pickup option. Every order is delivered.

Freight trucks are large. If your address has narrow or unpaved roads, a gate, a long or steep driveway, or other limited truck access, tell us when you order or give us a call. We'll check the options, and any surcharge, with you before your card is charged.
